Vision
under stress.

YXOX is a perception laboratory. We build games that hack how you see. Moiré interference, afterimage induction, chromatic vibration — our experiments weaponize optical phenomena. Stare too long and the screen fights back.

Moiré Induction

Gridlock

Two overlapping sine-wave gratings rotate independently. Your visual cortex tries to fuse them and fails spectacularly. Players report seeing colors that aren't there for up to six minutes post-play. Ophthalmologists love this one.

Motion Illusion

Static Rush

A completely still image that appears to roil and surge. We manipulate edge contrast and spatial frequency until your brain insists something is moving. The trick: it never was. Now available as prescription-strength optometry training.

Depth Inversion

Hollow Room

A 3D space that flips inside-out every 47 seconds. Your depth perception oscillates between two incompatible interpretations. Some players develop temporary binocular rivalry. Others just get motion sick. Both are valid outcomes.

Flicker Fusion

Push the human flicker-fusion threshold to its breaking point. Above 60Hz the light appears steady — unless we introduce subliminal phase shifts. Early subjects report "seeing sounds." Currently in IRB-approved trials at three universities.

The Facility

YXOX occupies a converted textile warehouse in Palermo Soho, Buenos Aires. Seven researchers work under strictly controlled lighting conditions. Blackout curtains, calibrated monitors, and a strict no-glasses policy for visitors (we need your naked retinas).

We don't make games for fun. We run experiments on human vision. Each "title" is a controlled stimulus designed to trigger specific perceptual failures. Our test subjects sign waivers. Our ethics board meets monthly. Our insurance premiums are terrifying.

The lab maintains a temperature of exactly 20°C and 50% humidity at all times. Retinal adaptation requires consistency. We've had subjects who couldn't leave for three days because their eyes needed to re-adapt to natural light. We fed them takeout through a slot.

L

Lucía Montenegro

Principal Investigator

Holds a PhD in visual psychophysics from UBA. Can induce afterimages on command by staring at your shirt for 30 seconds. Reviews every stimulus frame by frame. Has banned three colors from the lab.

Mateo Casares

Motion Specialist

Expert in apparent motion and phi phenomena. Built the Static Rush engine. Claims he once saw a parked car move by looking at it wrong. Sleeps with an eye mask and blackout curtains.

Color & Contrast

Specializes in chromatic edge detection and simultaneous contrast. Can distinguish 2 ΔE differences by eye. Once spent a week arguing about whether a stimulus was #FF0080 or #FF0081. She was right.
